  • We all have goals we want to reach, challenges we’re striving to overcome and times when we feel stuck. During a coaching session, the coach and client enter a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires the client to see problems from a new perspective. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership. Partnering like this with a coach can change your life, setting you on a path to greater personal and professional fulfilment.

  • Coaching is a form of learning, where a person (a coach) supports someone else (the
client) to make progress in some way. As a coach, I blend the skills of questioning,
listening, observation and feedback to create conversation rich in insight and learning.
As a coachee, you experience a focus and attention on your own circumstances that
helps you to develop greater awareness and understanding. In addition, you can gain
fresh ways to resolve issues, produce better results and achieve your goals more
    effectively.

  • There are many benefits to coaching. Some typical benefits can include:
    ● Improved sense of direction and focus
    ● Improved performance in an area of your role
    ● Increased knowledge of self / self-awareness
    ● Improved personal effectiveness, e.g. focused effort on priorities
    ● Increased motivation or sense of personal engagement
    ● Increased resourcefulness/resilience, e.g. ability to handle change.

  • Coaching is not mentoring

Mentors are trusted advisors that provide support by offering information, advice and assistance. Mentors draw on their individual experience, skills, wisdom and worldview, in order to support you with your situations and objectives.

For example, you might be interested in how to approach a career decision and seek out the experience of a mentor to understand their attitude/approach in a similar situation.

As a coach, I will listen and ask open questions to facilitate your thinking, learning and decision making. Unless you specifically ask me to do so, I will not advise you what to do, but will encourage you to consider the options available and the impact of those on you and your goals.

    Coaching is not structured training

Structured training relates to a fixed agenda and a prepared approach to make learning happen. For example, if you were being trained to use a computer, the trainer would use a planned approach to ensure you learnt a certain amount of information within a certain time frame.

Coaching allows a more flexible format. You and I will influence the direction and content of the sessions, and you are responsible for your learning during and after our sessions.

    Coaching is not therapy

Some issues are best handled by someone trained to support a specific issue with a specific set of skills, principles and approach; for example, addiction or mental health (depression, compulsive disorders, etc.).

While coaching is not therapy, it can help individuals with milder forms of anxiety, crisis of confidence, or self-doubt. This is because coaching promotes a greater self-awareness, and fuller appreciation of our situation and circumstances. Sometimes, we know our own answers and simply need support to implement our own solutions.

Coaching is not about someone else solving your problems for you.

Coaching assumes that an individual is ultimately responsible for the results they are creating. Whilst you might argue that this is not always true, it is normally a more effective idea to operate from. If we acknowledge that we are responsible for something, it follows that we have power and influence over it.

For example, if you’re not getting the results that you want at work, a coach might encourage you to:

    ● Understand the situation more clearly
    ● Develop new ideas or approaches for those situations
    ● Take constructive action that gets you the results you want.

  • I can provide mentoring in addition to coaching services. I have previously worked as a leader in international organisations, holding roles in commercial marketing, product development and guest experience. I have also provided consultancy services, and set up my own business.

For specific needs, we would discuss this as a part of our initial discussions before we enter into the Coaching Agreement.

  • The International Coaching Federation (ICF) is the leading organisation for coaches and coaching. The ICF is dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high standards, providing independent certification and building a worldwide network of trained coaching professionals.

  • Working with a coach you feel comfortable with is important.

Equally important is that they are fully trained and work to the highest professional standards.

The ICF credential systems are the only globally recognised professional coaching certification.

I am an ICF Associate Certified Coach. An Associate Certified Coach (ACC) is an ICF credential-holder and is part of a self-regulating group of elite coaches who provide accountability to clients and to the larger coaching profession.

They pursue and complete rigorous education and practice requirements that provide unquestionable legitimacy to their commitment to excellence in coaching.

To earn one of these credentials, a coach must complete coach-specific training that meets the ICF’s standards, achieving a designated number of coaching experience and training hours.

They must partner with a mentor coach and demonstrate appropriate understanding and mastery of the ICF’s definition of coaching, Code of Ethics and Core Competencies.

  • A “chemistry” call is a 30-minute meeting via Zoom, where we introduce ourselves to each other. I explain more about myself and the services I offer and you can share details about the topics or areas where you need coaching support and what outcomes you are looking for.

It is an important session to fully understand what you can expect from me as a coach, and for me to understand your needs, and, just as importantly, whether we mutually feel we can work together.

There is no cost for this call or obligation to proceed with paid coaching sessions after the session.

  • The cost will depend on the length of your coaching programme; which will largely be determined by your own coaching goals. Most of my current clients typically take a package of six sessions, and depending on location and circumstances, costs typically work out at between £150-£250 per session

  • My coaching approach is both relaxed and challenging at the same time. I encourage you to understand yourself, and to take ownership and action to tackle the obstacles that hold you back so that you can move forward.

I will provoke deeper thought, increase your confidence, and re-energize you. Above all, I will support and also hold you accountable, so you do what you say you want to do.

  • I will send you a formal agreement to review and sign. It covers the key terms and conditions of our working relationship, including, but not limited to, when and how often we plan to meet, the cost agreed, and the payment schedule. Once the agreement is signed by both parties, we can start to schedule the coaching session dates.

  • I provide personal one-to-one coaching sessions online via Zoom (or an alternative platform of your choice) or in person at a mutually agreed venue. The sessions are typically 60-90 minutes.

  • You can decide how far apart you would like your sessions to be.

I usually recommend a gap of at least 2-3 weeks. You will likely reflect on the content of the session afterwards and want to give more thought to topics. Or you may wish to time sessions to coincide with dates of key events at work which you want to bring up or discuss at your sessions.

  • If it is your first time working with a coach, you may wish to purchase a one-off session to experience coaching and to see if this is something you want to continue to pursue.

For most people, coaching supports a longer-term goal, habit or mindset change, and for this reason to fully benefit from your investment in coaching, I recommend a minimum of six sessions.

  • You set the agenda for each session by identifying what you want to focus or work on during the session and thinking about what you want to get out of each session.

As your coach, I support you to achieve your needs by listening to you, to understand you and what you think. I will not judge you. I will reflect back to you with an objective assessment and I may challenge your thinking or prompt you to have wider consideration.

  • To fully benefit from coaching, you need to be open to the potential of coaching. That means contributing to the conversations honestly and openly. The strength and power of coaching relates directly to the level of openness and trust in the relationship with your coach.

I expect you to stay committed to the coaching process. That means showing up for sessions, and keeping any agreements you make during sessions.

The following questions may help you prepare for a coaching session:

    ● What areas or topics might be most useful for you to work on with a coach?
    ● What simple goals do you have right now which you’d like to make more progress with? For example, making something happen, or achieving something
    ● What learning and self-development goals do you have? For example, to get
    better at something
    ● What factors under your influence might stop your involvement with a coach from being successful? For example, distractions, or a tendency to procrastinate
    ● What thoughts are you having now about getting started with a coach?

The intention of these questions is to encourage initial thoughts, and you may also find that ideas, questions or actions arise from your thinking that you can take to a coachin session.

  • I recommend that you take time to further reflect on our coaching conversation and continue to process any new thinking that may have arisen during the session. I may suggest certain exercises or ask you to consider certain questions before the next session.

This is not a mandatory requirement, but it is recommended in order to support your learning and development.

  • I try to be as flexible as possible to accommodate any changes to bookings, and I ask my clients to provide 48 hours’ notice if they need to reschedule or cancel a session.

  • You will receive an invoice for the coaching course after your first coaching session.

Payment methods and details are outlined in the agreement.

  • As a member of the ICF, I have agreed to work to the ICF Code of Ethics, which protects the privacy of all the clients that I coach. This means the contents of coaching discussions are confidential and I do not share the details with anyone else. Full details of the ICF Code of Ethics can be viewed via the following link: ICF Code of Ethics

  • Your personal contact details are held by me so that we can agree the terms of our engagement and to communicate effectively about session dates/times, etc. These are not shared with any other person / company without your express permission to do so.

Any writing / notes I make during our coaching sessions are purely for use within the session and serve as a means for me to note my key observations and to prompt any further enquiry on my part that I feel may be necessary.

  • How does this work and do you share information about our coaching conversations with them?

I recommend to clients who are sponsored by their company that an initial meeting be arranged with you (the client), your sponsor, and me, so that there is mutual understanding of the objectives for the coaching and expectations. I also recommend a mid-term and post-term coaching review with you, me and your sponsor, for you to provide any updates that you think are relevant. I do not provide private updates to sponsors.

  • There are testimonials from real clients available on this website. Requests for reference details will be considered on an individual request to ensure that client confidentiality is maintained.

“I recently had the good fortune to be mentored by Claire during a speechcraft course. Claire was very patient and easy to talk to. She has the ability to advise whilst making me feel like I’d worked things out for myself. She has given me lots of tools to work with in the future, which I have filed away in my “Tips from Claire” folder. I would highly recommend her as a mentor and coach.”
